Backcountry Skiing

Ski Mountaineering Techniques     1 Day
AT, Telemark or Splitboard

This day of training on Donner Pass adds the necessary skills to prepare for longer, more committing high mountain alpine glacial tours like the European Haute Route, Valdez Alaska, Norway by boat and other great Grand Tours.

Skills covered include:
  • Advanced uphill travel technique
  • Steep terrain kick turns
  • Transceiver/rescue practice
  • Glacier/mountaineering harness and basic kit
  • Ski anchors
  • Roped ski lower/rappel
  • Ski crampons
  • Basic belays and being short roped on mixed terrain
  • Practicing glacier skiing scenario

Call for dates

At least strong intermediate skiing skills able to handle a variety of snow conditions. At least 2 days of prior backcountry skiing with climbing skins. Very good physical condition.
