The ASI Backcountry Adventure Center at Sugar Bowl offers professionally-guided backcountry tours as well as avalanche awareness courses. The BAC welcomes you to check out our facility. We offer refreshments, equipment rentals and a cozy European Hut feel for those who just want stop by, relax and plan their next adventure.
BACKCOUNTRY AT SUGAR BOWL
SUGAR BOWL BACKCOUNTRY 1 Day
Ski & board Sugar Bowl's incredible backcountry terrain on AT, telemark or splitboard with lift access along the Pacific Crest, right from the resort! This is the perfect introduction to backcountry skiing and splitboarding.
Anderson Ridge Tour 1 Day
Take this follow-up tour to apply skills you learned on your Sugar Bowl Backcountry (or Intro To Backcountry) course. Skiers and splitboarders with previous backcountry touring experience can also join us on a great route.
Four Peaks Tour 1 Day
This is our big day combining great descents off all four of Sugar Bowl's Peaks (Judah, Lincoln, Disney and Crows). For experienced, advanced backcountry skiers and riders in Excellent Physical Condition.

AIARE Introduction To Avalanche Safety 1 Day
For the Ski Area & the Backside
The best way to learn the very basics of reducing the risk of avalanche hazard in and out-of-bounds at the ski area.
AIARE Avalanche Level 1 LIFT 3 Day
Level 1 with lift service at Sugar Bowl
This is a thorough, "stand alone" Level 1 course that emphasizes decision making skills and is designed for active lift-served skiers and riders who want quick access to high alpine terrain.
OVERNIGHT BACKCOUNTRY SKIING
Lost Trail Lodge – Backcountry Skiing 2 Day
This program really "takes it there" and combines the absolute best skiing off the Anderson Crest (accessed from Sugar Bowl) with a night at a beautiful lodge in the heart of the backcountry.
Sugar Bowl To Squaw Valley 2 Day
This 2-day tour presents state-of-the-art High & Light ski travel systems. This is the ultimate prep for longer multi-day High Route touring.
ALPINE FREERIDE SKIING
Early Season Tune-up 1 Day
Early season fundamentals will set you up for fun and success the rest of the year. Join Bela G. Vadasz and hone your technique on the early season groomers and apply these same moves off-piste or in the backcountry when the snow starts to really fly.
Ski The Whole Mountain 1-2 Day
Our signature event! This AMSP series of 1-2 day all-mountain free skiing ski camps at Sugar Bowl will include steep skiing sessions, powder skiing, crud skiing and all other challenges the mountain has to offer.
Steeps Camp 1 Day
with Eric DesLauriers & Bela G. Vadasz
For alpine downhill and randonnée skiers to build a repetoire of skills to ski long, committing, steep descents.
Private Alpine Freeride Lessons can also be arranged.
TELEMARK SKIING

XC SKIING
Saturday Morning XC Skate Club 9:30-11:00am
with Peter Mayfield
Join Master Instructor/Clinician, Peter Mayfield, for a fast paced skate ski workout and clinic.
Private XC Skate & XC Classic Lessons can also be arranged.
The BAC is located in the lower level of the Chalet Ski & Sports shop near the base of the Disney lift (on the Gondola side).
Besides AT, telemark and splitboard rentals and accessories, we will have XC skate ski as well as XC classic ski rentals!
*All programs include the use of Ortovox avalanche safety equipment.
