XCD Backcountry
1 Day
This day follows a fun lesson/tour format. After meeting at The Back Country shop in Truckee, we'll get everyone fitted with ski gear and begin with a brief orientation for the day. This includes checking clothing, accessories and creating a tour plan. After a short shuttle to the trailhead, we'll begin our introduction to XCD skiing.
We will practice important nordic skiing techniques including:
Flat and uphill travel
Basic diagonal stride
Double poling
Kick, double pole
Herring bone climbing
Diagonal skate
VI skate
Downhill traverse
Step turns and kick turns
Basic wedge
Wedge turns
Wedge christie turns
Basic telemark turns

Prerequisites
:
Very good physical condition. Strong intermediate/advanced alpine or telemark skiing skills at ski resorts. Previous skiing in ungroomed snow conditions recommended. Please review the Ski Technical Difficulty rating link above.
